Why are my teeth sensitive after I get a clean?
If you do not regularly have a professional scale and clean, sensitivity is a common occurrence after the treatment.
There are a couple of reasons for this:
- Lack of maintenance of your mouth will lead to gum disease, which causes gum recession. This exposes the roots of your teeth to the cold/hot food.
- Tartar buildup adheres to teeth stronger, then longer it is left. Much more force is required to remove it, which will also wear out your teeth. Frequent scaling only requires gentle forces.
- Tartar that is covering your teeth will block your teeth from the protective properties of your saliva and fluoride.
The sensitivity is quite uncomfortable and you can use sensitive toothpaste to decrease the symptoms. Your teeth should feel fine within a couple of weeks, if not, return to your dentist.
