In Western culture, most people brush their teeth AFTER breakfast. In Asian culture, people brush BEFORE breakfast. Which is better?!
Brushing before breakfast is better.
The reasons for this are:
- Removal of plaque from your teeth is the main purpose of toothbrushing. Plaque turns sugars from your food into acid, which causes tooth decay. If you remove the plaque before, then there is much less acid production.
- Many people drink fruit juice in the morning. The acid from the juice will soften your enamel and then if you brush it your teeth while it is softened, there is much more wear of your teeth.
A crown usually requires 2 appointments and there is a temporary crown in place during this time. The temporary crown is designed to be removed with relative ease, so sometimes, it can fall off or break too early!
The biggest reason why people don't see the dentist as often as they should is because of the pain. If trimming our nails hurt as much, I'm sure many people would be walking around with 10cm long fingernails and shoes with extra long toe sections!
Teeth aren't actually that simple! There's a lot of different things that make up a tooth and they all have different roles to play. It is really a great work of engineering.
Commonly, when you get braces, the orthodontist will want some teeth taken out before the treatment is started. It can seem weird and harmful to remove perfectly healthy teeth.
